Drought Conditions for the Start of October

South Dakota has been experiencing dry conditions and temperatures significantly above normal for some time. According to the latest drought monitor released on October 2nd, regions primarily south of Interstate 90 remain abnormally dry, affecting 19.45 percent of the state. Fortunately, the moderate drought has mainly been avoided, with less than 1% of the state affected by such conditions.

Looking ahead, forecast models indicate that more precipitation is expected next week, with western South Dakota experiencing the highest chances of significant amounts.
