On Sunday, a record-breaking high temperature of 103 degrees caused the carnival to be closed during the late afternoon. As temperatures "cooled," the carnival opened at around 6:00 p.m. The old record of 102 was set back in 1893.

Then, on Labor Day, another record-breaking high temperature of 102 degrees caused another closure at the State Fair. Officials from the State Fair announced that the FFA Ag Adventure Center closed at 11:00 a.m. due to the extreme heat. The old record was set in 1913 with a high temperature of 100 degrees.
