Out in the Black Hills, a thunderstorm rolling across the region started a fire in Wind Cave National Park.
Personnel and equipment from the National Park Service, Forest Service, Hot Springs Volunteer Fire Department, and South Dakota Wildland Fire responded to the fire on Tuesday afternoon. Additional help was received from two Single Engine Airtankers (SEATs) that are based at the Hot Springs Airport.
The crews worked on the fire for several hours and were able to keep the fire small with one and a half acres burned.
The Wind Cave National Park wants to warn visitors that the increase in temperatures, also increases the fire danger and to use caution.
