Wildfire Breaks Out in Custer County

On Tuesday morning, a wildfire was reported in Custer County, located just outside Custer State Park in west-central South Dakota.

At approximately 10:40 a.m. MST on Tuesday, a fire was reported roughly four miles southwest of Hayward, South Dakota. The most recent update at 3:55 p.m. MST indicated that the fire's forward progress had been halted after it burned just under three acres.

For the safety of federal, state, and local firefighters and the public, Playhouse Road is closed from Iron Mountain Road to the Center Lake Campground turn-off.
