Also, fire crews are on the scene of the Red Canyon Fire, which is located about six miles northeast of Edgemont and has burned 80 acres of land. Like the Barns Canyon fire, the cause of this fire is unknown.

The Custer Volunteer Fire Department posted on its Facebook page that firefighters investigated numerous reports of smoke around Custer on Wednesday evening.

We are aware there is a fire in Custer State Park, West of Newcastle and reports of one North of Edgemont so smoke is literally coming from every direction. If you are overly concerned please call the non-emergency dispatch line at 673-8176. If you see flames obviously don’t hesitate to call 911.

On the other side of the Black Hills, the Eden Road Fire, started by lightning and located about three miles southeast of Whitewood, remains uncontained as of Monday evening's report. Lightning was the cause of the Moskee Fire, about 17 miles southwest of Lead, but federal fire crews reported forward progress had been stopped, and 0.1 acres of land had been burned.
