Hills See Quick Hit Snows and Winds

A quick hit of accumulating snows has prompted the National Weather Service to issue a Winter Weather Advisory for the northern and central Black Hills today.

The area is under a Winter Weather Advisory until the middle of the afternoon, where snow amounts of up to five inches are expected. Besides the snow, gusty winds up to 45mph are also expected.

If you are planning on traveling in this area, be ready for slippery road conditions and widespread blowing snow that could reduce visibility. The South Dakota Department of Transportation (SDDOT) reports scattered slippery spots on US Highway 14A, US Highway 85, and on US Highway 385 around the Deadwood and Lead areas and also back west towards Cheyenne Crossing, Elmore, and Victoria.

Remember to slow down and use caution.
