Heavy Snow Squalls

During Wednesday afternoon, a band of heavy snow has prompted the weather service to issue a few Snow Squall Warnings for multi counties in west-central and southwest South Dakota.

The National Weather Services defined a Snow Squall Warning as a short-fused and focused on distinct areas (like a tornado and severe thunderstorm warnings). These warnings provide critical, highly localized, life-saving information.

Interstate 90 between Ellsworth Air Force Base and Wall became blocked by several motorists caught in the middle of the snow squall.

Multiple reports of stopped traffic due to little to no visibility east of Box Elder on Interstate 90. Please drive cautiously if you must travel.
