In addition to today's holiday sales, the weather will usher in the festive season, with more waves of fluffy snow expected.
Winter Storm Warnings and Winter Weather Advisories are in effect for most of South Dakota today and into Saturday. The latest warnings and advisories from the National Weather Service can be found at Weather Alerts.
The first wave of snow has already developed across the west and will move eastward throughout the day.

By the evening, the second wave of snow will be into western South Dakota and continue eastward through the night and into Saturday.

Overall, snow amounts of three to six inches are expected, with some pockets of higher amounts in the southeast and into Iowa and southern Minnesota.

The winds are anticipated to be less intense than those from the initial system observed earlier this week. Gusts ranging from 20 to 30 mph are possible, with a few stronger gusts expected in south-central South Dakota on Saturday afternoon. The snow is likely to be "fluffier," making it easy to blow around, so expect areas of blowing and drifting snow this weekend.
