Thunderstorm development is still expected during the first part of the work week as a cold front moves through the area. Some of these thunderstorms late on Monday could become strong to severe with damaging winds and hail being the main threats.

Strong southerly winds ahead of the front will feed moisture and warm temperatures into eastern regions of the state during the day. Behind the front, dry and cooler air, along with northwest winds, will help in the development of storms.

According to one forecast model, the American (GFS) model, by Monday afternoon, showers and thunderstorms will develop across the west and spread eastward during the evening and overnight hours. By evening hours, thunderstorms, some of which are expected to be strong, are expected across the east. Chances for showers and thunderstorms continue through the overnight and into Tuesday.
