Strong Southeast Winds Ahead Strong Storm System

Southeast winds will increase today, starting this morning in the west and into the afternoon in the east. Gusts up to 55mph are possible in the west and up to 35mph in the east. By Saturday, ahead of the strong storm system, strong southeast winds with gusts up to 60mph.

Today brings mostly dry conditions, besides a few isolated late rain showers into the Black Hills. Highs will be in the 50s and 60s with a few isolated 70s in west-central SD.

Then precipitation chances increase as the storm system moves closer to South Dakota with mainly rain showers and isolated thunderstorms.

Precipitation continues, with rain changing over to heavy snow for the Black Hills where a Winter Storm Watch is in effect. Rain and thunderstorms elsewhere with an isolated strong to severe thunderstorm cannot be ruled out in south-central, SD.

On Sunday, rain continues for central and eastern, South Dakota, snow for the Black Hills, and a mixture of rain or snow for western South Dakota.

By Monday, the chances of precipitation will decrease but remain in the area as the system slowly moves away from the region.

The heaviest snowfall is expected in the Black Hills where some locations could see over a foot of snow through the weekend.
