Trees Down and Golf Ball Size Hail

A storm system, accompanied by a cold front, triggered thunderstorm development on Monday afternoon in the far southeastern corner of South Dakota. These storms brought gusts of up to 60 mph and hailstones the size of golf balls.




Just outside of Vermillion, a storage building was destroyed, and several large tree limbs were down, along with one large tree leaning against a house due to strong thunderstorm wind gusts. Over to the east by Elk Point, large trees were blown over across Burkbank Road, and golf ball size hail was reported. In the city of Elk Point, hail to the size of ping pong balls (1.50") was reported.

Behind the cold front, cooler weather with temperatures expected to reach only the 60s and 70s is anticipated on Tuesday, accompanied by northwest winds.
