The National Weather Service has upgraded east-central, South Dakota to a Winter Storm Warning for Wednesday as a quick hit of moderate to heavy snow moves across the state. Other surrounding counties are under a Winter Weather Advisory for lesser amounts of snow.
Snow has already developed over western and central, South Dakota and will continue to move eastward throughout the day. As the precipitation moves into eastern, South Dakota, some locations in the southeast may see rain before changing over to snow.
By the evening hours, the snow is expected to move out of the state before another system impacts the western and southern regions for Thursday and Thursday night.
Snowfall amounts for today will be the highest in east-central, South Dakota where six to nine inches are possible. Amounts will be lighter as you move north, south, and west of the warning area.
Additional snowfall amounts are expected from the second system for southern and western regions with a total three-day total of over three inches.
