Snow and Wind Expected to Increase

Updated: Feb 24, 2023

There may be a break in the action this morning, but much of the state will fill up with snow coverage as the day progresses. Blizzard and Winter Storm Warnings cover all of South Dakota as the second storm will start moving in.

Snow is expected to have moved into the western and southern regions of the state by the start of the afternoon and continued to spread into the northeast as the afternoon moves on. Wind gusts will be the strongest in the east, with gusts between 30-40mph with 20-30mph in the west.

By this evening, snow would have spread statewide and increased in intensity along with the wind gusts. 25-40mph wind gusts are expected in the southeast, with 40-50mph gusts in the northeast.

By the start of Thursday morning, snow is forecast to come to an end in western South Dakota, and the storm system will continue its track towards the northeast. Wind gusts still strong in the east between 25-45mph.

By Thursday afternoon, the snow is expected to be done across the south and west and completely out of the state by the evening hours. Winds will continue to decrease with gusts dropping below 30mph
