Christmas Day Winter Weather

Updated: Dec 27, 2022

A quick-moving clipper-like system is forecast to bring areas of light freezing drizzle, light freezing rain, and snow to parts of the state. Along with the precipitation, strong winds return to bring more expected issues to the area.

Let's first start with the precipitation. Already this morning, freezing rain and snow are moving their way across northwest and north-central SD. For the latest radar images, check out our Storm Icon Radar.

This precipitation is expected to move eastward this morning and continue throughout the day before ultimately exiting the state later tonight.

On the back side of this system, strong northwest winds return. Some locations in the northwest could see wind gusts over 50mph once again. Luckily this will be short-lived, and I will be out of here during the overnight hours.
