Earlier this week, the National Weather Service in Aberdeen announced the end of the growing season, even though many of us have not experienced a hard freeze. What does this mean, then?

According to the weather service, the climatological end of the growing season for the area has been reached, and in past years, we typically see our first hard freeze. Since we have reached this point in the fall season, the National Weather Service in Aberdeen, which covers central and northeast South Dakota, will no longer be issuing any frost or freezing alerts until next spring.
Across the West, Freezing Warnings had been issued earlier in the month, and for some, it ended the growing season.
