Extreme Cold Freezes Those in South Dakota

Powerful northwest winds pushed arctic cold temperatures right over South Dakota with wind chills down into the 60s below zero on Saturday.

Extreme cold freezes traffic with many school activities, church services, and employers canceling events during the weekend. The National Weather Service has all of South Dakota under Wind Chill Warnings for the weekend and going into the start of the workweek.

Besides the dangerous wind chills, many areas saw reduced visibility and ground blizzard conditions as snow on the surface was blown into the area from the northwest winds.

More winds are forecast to push into the region on Monday with gusts up to 45mph in some locations. This will create areas of blowing snow and bone-chilling wind chills once again.
