It has been a while since widespread precipitation chances had returned to South Dakota. Initially, the amounts were on the light side across the east, bringing little relief to the drought.
Those in the west saw better amounts, ranging from around a quarter to under one inch. At the Rapid City Airport, a record rainfall of 0.59 inches was set, breaking the old record from 1984 of 0.43 inches. In downtown Rapid City, at the National Weather Service, a record was also set, with 0.73 inches falling.
