Motorists Deal with Blizzard Conditions

Strong winds with gusts over 60mph and falling snow, creating near-whiteout conditions, were reported in many locations across north-central and northeast South Dakota on Tuesday. Many counties issued no travel advisories, and Interstate 29 from Watertown to the North Dakota-South Dakota state line was closed.
The South Dakota Highway Patrol shared this image of backed-up traffic on Interstate 29 near the Sisseton Exit on Tuesday evening. Before the closure, many crashes or stalled vehicles were reported on the interstate in northeast South Dakota.
On Wednesday morning, Interstate 29 remains closed north of Watertown, and a few counties still have no travel advisories. The latest SD road reports are available at SDDOT's website at https://www.sd511.org/.
