The National Weather Service has placed Blizzard Warnings, Winter Storm Warnings, Ice Storm Warnings, and Winter Weather Advisories for the powerful storm system that looks to impact South Dakota starting this afternoon and containing for the rest of the week. Starting with this afternoon, freezing drizzle or light drizzle is expected to develop over the east.
During the overnight hours, the precipitation is expected to become more widespread, covering much of the state. The west will see snow with a mixed bag of snow and rain or freezing rain across central and parts of eastern SD.
As we move into Tuesday morning, heavy wet snow and blizzard conditions are expected for the west. The northeast and down towards south-central could see freezing rain and a mixture of snow/rain. The southeast looks to have rain.
By Tuesday evening and into the overnight hours, the west remains with snow, heavy at times. The northeast could see precipitation from a mix of rain/snow, rain, freezing rain, sleet, and snow. The southeast looks to remain with rain.
