As we discussed last weekend, wintry weather still appears strong for portions of South Dakota this weekend.

A small weather system is expected today, accompanied by an additional arctic system that will arrive later tonight and persist into Saturday, bringing chances of precipitation, strong northwest winds, and significantly colder temperatures. Saturday highs into the 30s across the north and along Interstate 29 and the 40s for the far south and south-central, central, and southwest South Dakota. However, by Sunday, much cold air will push into the region, with some locations not even reaching the 20s, but widespread highs in the 30s, with a few isolated 40s in the southwest, making it feel more like winter than fall.

Saturday's Forecast

Sunday's Forecast

Snow accumulations are possible with these two systems across parts of the Northeast and East Central, with amounts of around one inch (light blue areas of the map), but we cannot rule out a few isolated spots receiving closer to two inches. Additionally, the northern Black Hills can expect a couple of inches for the first part of the weekend.

Strong northwest winds are expected with the second system later tonight and into Saturday, with gusts up to 60mph possible in the west, where High Wind Watches are in place.

If you are a fan of winter weather, warmer temperatures are expected to return next week, with highs in the 60s, possibly even a few 70s. Stay tuned. For additional weather forecasts for your area of South Dakota, check out your Local Forecast.
