A winter storm is in the forecast starting later this evening and going through Friday. Winter Storm Warnings are already in place for southwest, South Dakota where heavy snows are expected.

Snow is forecast to move into the southwest by this evening and spread eastward through the overnight hours.
By Friday morning, snow is expected to be over eastern, South Dakota and into central regions such as the Pierre area. The southwest will start to see the snow come to an end.
By the afternoon, the snow will be over the east coming to an end by the evening hours.
The heaviest snowfall will be over the southwest where 9 to 12 inches of snow is expected. Towards the east across south-central and southeast, South Dakota, snow amounts of 6 to 9 inches by Friday evening. Northward towards Brookings and into Madison and then back towards the west into the Chamberlain area, snow amounts 3 to 6 inches is expected. The more northward you travel, the lesser amounts you will see with the Aberdeen, Mobridge, and Buffalo area forecast to receive no snow.
