Our First Severe Thunderstorm

South Dakota saw its first severe thunderstorm of the season as a strong storm that developed over Nebraska moved across the border just west of Yankton.


This storm dropped hail to the size of Ping Pong Balls (1.50") in Springfield, SD. As the storm continued to move northeast, Nickel size hail (0.88") was reported in Canistota, SD.


These thunderstorms are ahead of a powerful storm system that is forecast to bring blizzard conditions for Friday and ice to parts of east-central and northeast, South Dakota.
