Graupel, Thunder, and Strong Winds

Scattered showers and thunderstorms developed on Monday, bringing all kinds of weather, including quick hits of heavy rain, a mixture of precipitation, graupel, and bursts of strong winds.

Graupel, heavily rimed snow particles or snow pellets, fell in parts of the region, covering yards and fields before melting shortly after.

Besides the mixed bag of precipitation, strong gusty winds ahead of the spotty showers/thunderstorms were powerful enough to blow a few vehicles off the road on Interstate 29 in southeast South Dakota. In Nebraska, thunderstorm wind gusts of 67mph were reported two miles southeast of Creighton.
