The Rapid City Fire Department was called to a grass fire near Elk Vale Road over the weekend after a passerby reported seeing smoke and flames coming from the ditch.

Upon arriving at the scene, the crews from the Rapid City Fire Department swiftly managed and extinguished the fire, with no injuries reported.
This is a good reminder on fall fire conditions. Grass and dead leaves that are dried out are highly combustible. Just because fall is cooler, doesn’t mean low risk. We have been seeing warm ups in the afternoons and these conditions can lead to easy ignition and rapid fire growth.
