Roads in South Dakota once more became slippery, leading to various problems on Saturday. The southbound lanes of Interstate 29, from Exit 164 (Castlewood/Clear Lake Exit) to Exit 150 (Toronto/Estelline), were closed on Saturday afternoon due to a semi-truck crash. The South Dakota Department of Transportation reported that the roads were entirely covered in ice and advised drivers to slow down.

The conditions were not any better down in southeast South Dakota. Snow-covered roads made conditions even slipperier, and responders in Clay County were called to this rollover crash.

This winter storm affected not only South Dakota but also drivers in Iowa, Minnesota, and North Dakota. Troopers across Iowa responded to several crashes, and the bulk of the heavy snow set up shop across the state.

Conditions are anticipated to gradually improve on Sunday as the storm system moves toward the northeastern United States. Locally in South Dakota, several days of cold, yet dry, weather are expected. You can find your local forecasts on our Local Weather pages.
