A very strong supercell thunderstorm in western South Dakota dropped very large hail, brought destructive winds, and tornadoes. The thunderstorms originated north of Belle Fourche and tracked southeast during Saturday evening.
Category one hurricane force winds of 85mph were reported about a mile northwest of Nisland or east of Belle Fourche. These same winds were later reported down by Cactus Flats or west of Kadoka along Interstate 90.

According to the Kadoka Volunteer Fire Department, the storm destroyed several structures, and a few injuries were reported.

Besides the powerful winds and tornadoes, giant hail accompanied this supercell thunderstorm. About 18 miles west of Kadoka, hail to the size of a grapefruit (4.50") completely took out a Jackson County Deputy Sheriff's windshield on Interstate 90.
A complete storm report will be posted at a later time.
