Temperatures last work week were well above average, with highs reaching the 90s and even 100s at times. At the National Weather Service Office in East Rapid City, a record high of 96 degrees on Thursday broke the old ten-year record of 93 degrees.
On the same day, Philip started with a low temperature of 59 degrees at 5 a.m. but rose by 42 degrees to an afternoon high temperature of 101.
These hot temperatures continued into the weekend with a high of 98 degrees in Philip, 96 in Pine Ridge, 95 in Mobridge and Pierre, 94 at the Rapid City Airport, 92 in Aberdeen and Chamerblain, and within the cities of Sioux Falls, Mitchell, and Buffalo reached 91 degrees on Saturday.
A cold front will push through the area on Monday, dropping the temperature closer to normal for Tuesday. Warm temperatures will return on Wednesday, with some highs reaching the 80s.
