Tornadoes, Large Hail, and Flooding Cause a Crash

Thursday afternoon and overnight thunderstorms have resulted in a variety of severe weather conditions throughout eastern South Dakota.
An isolated severe thunderstorm in the far northeast corner of the state produced a tornado in North Dakota about four miles southwest of Lamars. An additional report came in as the tornado danced around the state line of North Dakota and South Dakota. This thunderstorm continued slowly towards the southeast and moved into Minnesota, where additional tornado warnings were issued during the evening hours.

During the overnight hours, flash flooding from slow-moving thunderstorms dropped very heavy rain in Codington County. Streets in Watertown were reported flooded, and on Interstate 29 near mile mark 183, also flooded, causing a motor vehicle crash. No injuries reported, but the vehicle did float away.
At around 1:35am, early Friday morning, hail to the size of baseballs (2.75") was reported about three miles northwest of Canova in Miner County. Several vehicles are reported to have significant damage from the large hail.
