A significant portion of South Dakota is experiencing cold weather alerts for tonight and into Friday.

Today, Wednesday, January 21st, 2026, the strongest wind gust has been recorded at a weather station located west of Sioux City, Iowa, with a speed of 81 mph.

Consecutive systems on Tuesday and Wednesday are expected to bring light snow accumulations to parts of South Dakota.

South Dakota experienced another series of strong winds that caused further disruption. Although these winds were not as intense as the previous event in December.
